Hakwood flooring in stylish, contemporary London office

Hakwood flooring has been incorporated into a design that speaks of quality and professionalism for the London based private equity firm, Exponent. Orms, a creative and design-led architectural practice were appointed by Exponent to design the interiors for their offices. Melanie Martin, Associate Director of the London based firm explains,

“The brief was developed in direct conversation with the client. Their firm’s major asset is their people and the knowledge they share. With this in mind the concept for the space has been designed to ensure a level of intimacy to help maintain and foster these trusted relationships, with each other and their investors. We selected Hakwood flooring due to its quality, texture and richness. It was laid out in a diagonal pattern instead of a vertical one to provide the areas with a contemporary edge that adds life and movement to the interiors, and without being too overbearing, it complements the surrounding environment by creating a seamless, flowing connection between the various workspaces, reception areas, breakout spaces, and meeting rooms within the office.”

The look and feel of the space touches on the warehouse aesthetic of its immediate context in Soho, mixed with a softness and warmth more akin to a domestic interior, be it with a professional and refined set of spaces and details. The spatial configuration and material palette work together to create a welcoming feel with eclectic touches setting out an engaging narrative throughout the space.

The overall design takes inspiration from the clients’ strong relationships that have been built up over the years and mixed it with elements of the Soho location. This is why Orms created an architecture that seeks to elevate the human experience through insight, collaboration, and design integrity. This mantra translates to the Exponent office space; the spatial configuration and material palette as well as the combination of natural warm tones and homely materiality are evident in the textured woven fabrics of the furniture, generous natural lighting, and dimensional floor tones.
