Hakwood flooring featured in London's Devonshire Club

Devonshire Club, London’s most glamorous new private members club, has recently opened its doors following the £25 million renovation of its site in Devonshire Square. This exclusive haven, in one of the City’s most iconic business and leisure destinations, has begun welcoming successful women and men from the City and thriving East End.

A combination of Hakwood plank, herringbone, chevron and brick pattern flooring can be found throughout the mid-century inspired interior design scheme at the Devonshire Club, designed by March & White. By introducing bespoke flooring in various complex patterns, the series of bars, brassieres, and lounges flow elegantly together while each possessing their own unique identity.

The Club occupies all six floors of a listed 19th century Regency warehouse close to Liverpool Street. It is run by CEO Brian Clivaz, one of the most celebrated figures in the hospitality industry, known for opening Home House and reinvigorating The Arts Club. His aim is to make The Devonshire Club one of the leading private members’ clubs in the world.

Spread over 58,000 sq ft, (5388 m2) the club has impressive facilities that few can rival including three bars, a 110 seat brasserie, private dining rooms, 68 bedrooms, a screening room,  a private gymnasium with personal trainers, a Pilates studio, blow dry and nail bars, four treatment rooms, valet parking, a summer and winter garden and a smoking terrace.

Intricate planning of the interior scheme has manifested in a series of public spaces that flow seamlessly into one another, each with its own distinct identity and unique features.

The luxury mid-century interior speaks volumes for the interior designers’ eye for detail, as well as their commitment to authentic materials and superb craftsmanship- resulting in an aesthetically elegant and texturally luxurious space throughout.

Hakwood Tranquility flooring in herringbone pattern graces the floor of the Brasserie which, in regard to both menu and style, situates at the crossroads between “St. James’ and Saint Tropez”.

Designer James White of March & White explains: “Each space needed to have its own personality. The woods get slightly warmer as you move upstairs, and that’s how we wanted it to feel, like a progression as you walk through.”

The multiple flooring finishes in the Devonshire Club were achieved by using the Hakwood bespoke service, which allows architects and designers to combine their design vision with the natural beauty of wood and Hakwood’s manufacturing capabilities.

White concludes; “At Devonshire Club, almost every finish and surface is bespoke. It involves a lot of time and effort, but is what sets it apart.”
